TYRES...
Tyres, or Tires as the Americans call them, are one of the most important parts of a car for safety, comfort and economy. Your car tyres are the only point of contact between your car and the road. They should provide a comfortable ride, yet be as robust and wear resistant as possible, maintaining safe and controlled driving for your vehicle.
Tyres need to be carefully constructed from a combination of different ingredients. As many as 200 separate raw materials can be used in the construction of one tyre. The tread provides traction while the tyre body support for the vehicle is the grooved outer layer that is in direct contact with the road. The tyre compound is made from a mixture of many different kinds of natural and synthetic rubbers. It is designed to grip the road, resist general wear and tear and cope with high temperatures generated by friction. The grooves and tread on the outside of the tyre are specially designed to channel water away from the surface of the tyre, maintaining maximum grip. Different rubber compounds are used for tyres to make them suitable for different vehicles and driving conditions. For example, racing cars have tyres that can work at very high temperature ranges with optimum grip, enabling prolonged usage at high speeds on the track. These tyres wear more rapidly than typical road tyres which are balanced to provide optimum steering, braking, road holding and wear capabilities. We service and stock a range of different tyres, come in and talk to one of our friendly team about what tyre is the best option for you. |
TYRE ROTATION... The front and rear wheels of your vehicle operate under different conditions and as a result wear at different rates. To even out the wear and obtain the best possible life from your tyres they should be rotated on a regular basis. We recommend rotating your tyres every 10,000 km and we offer this service absolutely FREE |
